The Contrada of the Unicorn is one of the seventeen contrade of Siena, located in the Terzo di San Martino. Its emblem is a rampant unicorn on a silver shield with a blue border where the motto “Humberti Regis Gratia” is inscribed in gold. Its colors are white and orange, striped with blue. The contrada’s motto is “Faith and healing equally my weapon on the forehead.”
The contrada holds the title of Priora for having hosted the first meeting of the Magistrato delle Contrade. Its Terzo of belonging is San Martino. The military companies associated with the contrada are Pantaneto, San Giorgio, and Spadaforte. The allied contradas of the unicorn are the Pantera and the Tartuca. The adversarial contrada of the unicorn is the Civetta. The patron saint of the contrada is Saint John the Baptist. The titular feast is celebrated around June 24th. The contrada’s guild is that of goldsmiths.
The Contrada of the Unicorn is one of the oldest contrade in Siena, with a long and rich history. The contrada is deeply cherished by its contradaioli (members of the contrada), who are always ready to support it in its races at the Palio.
